Our Reception class is called ‘The Owls’ class and is led by our Early Years teacher Mrs Black. We also have Miss Taylor and Miss Borthwick, our teaching assistants, who support Mrs Black each morning. There are 12 available places in Owls per academic year.
Owls class is full of fun, laughter and learning. Alongside our indoor classroom area, we are fortunate to have our own outdoor classroom and little garden which the children access throughout the day. Learning is delivered through adult led and child-initiated activities and enhanced through play, exploration and investigation of the world around us. Our Reception children are also included in the weekly specialist teaching of French on Tuesday afternoons.
Our provision is designed to encourage the children to be enthusiastic independent learners within a positive and well-resourced learning environment. Topics are planned termly and are influenced by the children’s own interests and fascinations. Parents and carers are encouraged to join in with our learning through attending our very popular ‘Curriculum Afternoons’. They are very welcome to come and help in class hearing readers or supporting group activities.
We have a class teddy bear called Hugo who goes on home visits at the weekends with the children. You can see Hugo’s photos and read his weekly blog by clicking on the ‘Hugo’ link.
